The two stories Essay Example for Free

The two stories Essay In Of Mice and Men lennie is a fully developed character compared to Isaac, this is why you dont really know Isaac as well but with lennie you can relate to lennie and what he goes through. The ostler is a short story so Isaacss character isnt well developed. Lennie and Isaac are both treated like outsiders by various people, I think that lennie is more accepted in society than Isaac due to people feeling sorry for lennie, they dont believe he could cause any trouble and they believe he is just like a child. Lennie relies on people to tell him whats wrong and whats right. Leninie is just a child in a grown- ups body. Isaac I think is seen more as an outsider he doesnt go out, he spends most of the time with his mother so he doesnt really have time to go out and make friends. The only real friend he has got is his mother Mrs scratchard. Rebecca is just false and wants to kill Isaac just like in his dream. In mice of men, towards the end of the story, lennies s little puppy dies because lennie was playing to rough with it why did you have to go and get killed, you aint so small as mice, I didnt bounce you hard Lennie doesnt realise what hes done he only thinks that now hes done something bad George wont let him tend the rabbits. While lennie is sitting there crying, Curleys wife comes in she said, What you got their sunny boy lennie denies he has got anything, but Curleys wife discovers the puppy. Lennie wont talk to Curleys wife, George has told him to keep away because all she will cause is trouble and shes dangerous. In the end lennie ends up talking to curleys wife and lennie starts saying that he likes stroking soft things and curleys wife lets him stroke her hair, but lennie starts to get rougher and wont stop and curleys wife starts to panic, Let Go. You let go But when lennie ignores he curleys wife begins to scream and as she does this lennie gets angry so he started shaking her and then Her body flopped like a fish lennie runs away and tries to find the place where George told him to hide if he was ever to get into trouble again. Curley and everyone find Curleys wife and go after lennie to kill him. George goes after him as well. George finds lennie first, lennie wants to hear about the rabbits, so George tells lennie to turn around and look at the fields and image what it would be like, as George tells the story lennie brings out a gun and shoots lennie in the head. George does this himself because he doesnt want anyone else killing lennie, he would rather kill him himself, and also after someone else shooting candys dog, candy wishes he shoot him himself. In the ostler Isaac doesnt believe his mum, Mrs scratchard, about the dream. But after she died she warned Isaac not to go back. Isaac does go back through and after arguing with Rebecca he hits her Rebecca replies No man has ever struck me twice and then she left saying they will see each other no more. But on the seventh night before his birthday she come back, to rein act the dream, but as Isaac new what would happen he knew where she hide the knife, he took the knife and left her there and went away. Now Isaac lives in fear of Rebecca, he sleeps most nights well, through the year, but every time around his birthday he is worried in case she comes back and tries to rein act the dream again. Huck Finn :: essays papers

Huck Finn This story started out sometime in the mid-1800s in the small town of Hannibal, Missouri. A few months earlier Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn discovered a chest full of gold. The two adventurous boys split the twelve-thousand dollars, and Judge Thatcher was keeping their money safe in a trust. In the meantime, Widow Douglas and her sister, Miss Watson, realizing Huck's unsophisticated ways, took him into their home to try to "sivilize" him. Huck learned to read and write and even acquired some religion, but he didn't like it too much that Miss Watson continually tried to vanquish his smoking and swearing. One day Huck saw footprints in the snow and realized that his father was back in town. This made Huck very uncomfortable because his father stayed drunk and beat him whenever he felt like it (which was most of the time). Huck knew the only reason his Pap came back was to collect his son's money. After finding out about his Pap, Huck went quickly over to Judge Thatcher's house to sign away the right to his share of the twelve thousand dollars. Since he had no money now, he figured his father wouldn't bother him. A few nights later, Huck found his Pap, looking very rough and ragged, sitting in a chair in his room. Pap was very angry with Huck for becoming smarter than his father and threatened to beat him if he didn't quit learning. Pap took Huck's only dollar and left, but showed up the next day at Judge Thatcher's house claiming to be Huck's legal guardian. Pap demanded the money that was in Huck's name, but the judge refused. A while later, Pap became desperate and kidnapped his son. He took him to a one-room log hut where Huck was kept locked up whenever Pap had to leave. Huck didn't like this too much, nor did he like the daily beatings he received when Pap was drunk. Despite this, Huck rather enjoyed not having to be civilized anymore. One night after Pap threatened to kill Huck, the boy decided he had taken enough; he was going to escape. The next night while Pap was in town, Huck found a saw and cut out a piece of one of the walls. He crawled through the hole and replaced the piece of wood so that Pap wouldn't notice it.

Comparison Of Bram Stokers Dracula And Coppola`S Dracula

Dracula, for long has been taken as a character in literature which resembles itself closely with the fear factor. The theme speaks volumes about the Draculanian culture whereby the feared perspective is made visible in the form of different sub elements as well as depictions that accompany its dissimilar and varied movements, the battle actions and so on and so forth. Dracula is indeed the end of all characters that have represented the society with regards to evil and wickedness. However it would be best to put the same in the light of the supernatural mystery that has surrounded such characters. Horror fiction, gothic novel and invasion literature have spoken volumes about this character every now and then and since this forms up as an important piece of evil regime therefore it has its own right in the present as well as past scheme of things, which is literature in this case. The key text reveals this sense of gothic implementation with line like â€Å"My friend. — Welcom e to the Carpathians. I am anxiously expecting you. Sleep well tonight. At three tomorrow the diligence will start for Bukovina; a place on it is kept for you. † (Stoker, 1) Here, the language of this note depicts a sense of mystic approach as well as almost an instruction of a treasure hunt. This is a technique that is used for developing the supernatural incidents that are going to take place later in the novel. This indirect manner of approach is nothing but the prelude to the later mystical narrations. It can also be mentioned that Dracula in Stoker’s text is always a polished and sophisticated villain in every aspect of the terms. This is because polish in appearance and sophistication in approach was highly regarded as a great virtue during the author’s era and Stoker presented his villain in the mode of the era. On the on the other hand Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1992 presents Dracula as a fire spitting monster as a vampire. It ap pears that Coppola tried to translate the gothic structure of the novel into his movie and in the process exaggerated the concept of gothic vampire and turned Dracula into a regular Hollywood monster. It is possible that the director tried to emulate the flavor of the present era where the end result counts the most. Thus Coppola’s Dracula resembles an approach that is more effective as a killer than the original character. The first dialogue in the movie by Dracula appears to be very flat in comparison to the letter mentioned earlier. â€Å"Welcome to my home. Enter freely of your own will and leave some of the happiness you bring. † (Kuehl, 1) The dialogue here is very business like and to the point. There is no mysticism involved as in the original text. The simple reason behind this is that there is a difference of more that a century between the two productions and within this time it should be mentioned that the perspective of life has changed and there is a huge d ifference of the perceptions of people of the 1897 and that with the audience of 1992. Furthermore the mediums are different too. A movie is comparatively a faster medium than a text and thus time management is necessary. As a result it is important to keep each and ever aspect concise and to the point. However, it should also be mentioned that the original flavor of the text is missing in the movie by a distance.
